Swanndri of New Zealand Oilskin Vest.
Pretty much a standard article of clothing for the Kiwi, the Oilskin's have been around for 100 years. To combat the Seasonal rain the New Zealand Settlers first made coats from the sails of their ships, utilising the tough cloth for durability and then impregnating it with oil to make a waterproof layer.
Later the techinque was employed in making custom garments with heavy duty cotton and wax. This is now the modern oilskin, worn out of long tradition and because its as effective now as it was then...ultimately thats why its still in production.
The vest is great for outdoor work, offering ventilation and freedom of movement, combined with protection and carrying ability.
