Each one of these Axes is Handforged by Svante himself and takes many, many hours of work. There is an 18 month waiting list for these normally, we have them becuase we ordered them 18 months ago!

We make our Viking axe based on an original axe head that Elsa’s father and brother dug up in a field on the southern part of Gotland, Sweden. The original is dated to somewhere between year 1000-1500.This a larger carving axe coming in at 3.3lbs. It features the classic ash wood handle with great and comfortable texturing! just like most of the SD Range.

All our axes are made with the edge in the middle. Symmetrical bevels, which means that the bevels have the same length. All grinding and honing are made on freehand. The bevel angle is around 27-28 degrees. The axe head is put on the handle with glue and a wedge. We use a hydraulic press with around 1000 kg’s of power to push down the wedge. This is the best way to fasten the axe head to the handle.
