Why 'Black Cat?...that was the particular 'run' of Mercator knives that happened to be available after the Second World War, these were the ones that the GI's saw and wanted and without knowing the Makers name, they simply refered to them as those 'Black Cat' knives. The name stuck as it became intimately associated with Mercator (Otter) knife as well becoming a by-word for quality.
